The vision for this AC Hotel by Marriott in Hood River, Oregon was based on the area’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Terraced forms stepping down the hillside, expansive windows framing mountain views, and materials that echo the authenticity of Hood River, this design embraces openness and transparency, inviting guests into spaces that feel both grounded in nature and elevated by modern hospitality. By layering civic presence with human scale, the hotel becomes both a gateway for visitors and a welcoming hearth for the local community. We approached the steep site with a tiered strategy, allowing the building to nestle into the terrain while offering rooftop amenities like plunge pools and a bar overlooking the Gorge. Guestrooms were carefully oriented to maximize views, and the use of brick ties the structure to the historic downtown fabric. The resort includes a full-service restaurant, two bars, a spa with hydrotherapy pools and treatment rooms, and flexible event spaces designed to host everything from weddings to local gatherings. More than a hotel, this is a social anchor that is globally inspired and locally grounded. It is a place where the spirit of Hood River’s landscape, history, and vibrant water sports culture come together in a refined and approachable setting.
